The biggest challenge was to make a lighting design that would overlay the installed working light without changing the ceiling. The lighting experience that I added represented the flow of water, like a waterfall coming to the next room, and the technical challenges were plenty.
In this project I was comissioned by Iart, a swiss media architecture company, to develop the lighting design of a renovation project in the headquarters of Endress and Hauser, in Switzerland. The project consisted of designing the whole client experience from reception to an interactive room, and the third room was called Coffice.
The biggest challenge was to make a lighting design that would overlay the installed working light without changing the ceiling. The lighting experience that I added represented the flow of water, like a waterfall coming to the next room, and the technical challenges were plenty.
I had envisioned movement within the linear lighting. I proposed a wave from a water movement, where the brightness would serve as a method of way-finding into the next room . To make that movement possible I had to learn everythinkg about pixel addressed lighting, DMX protocols being triggered by a DALI system, how to develop the interface with the system enginners and how to bring a project from the most poetic concept lighting until the last technical part of power supplies, controlling software and a very challenging mounting system. It brought me back to the most beautiful aspect of lighting, that we do poetry from science.
